A general obstetrician and gynecologist, Samreen Akbar, MD, provides preventative and routine care for women. Dr. Akbar also performs colposcopies to diagnose and manage disorders of the female lower genital tract.

In addition to her busy clinical practice, Dr. Akbar do not miss an opportunity of keeping herself updated in the fast changing field of medical practice by attending seminars and conferences to adopt current best practices in the area of OBGYN and continue to reinforce her expertise in robotic assisted surgical procedures and techniques to maximize her patient’s total satisfaction before, during and after their treatment.

‪Dr. Samreen Akbar received her Doctor of Medicine degree in 1994, followed by one year of internships in Medicine and Obstetrics and Gynecology. After graduating medical school, she finished extensive residency/fellowship training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Dow Medical College – one of the best medical schools in Pakistan. In the year 2000 when only 29, she became one of the youngest Member and Fellow of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan, affiliated with the Royal College of England. For her achievement, Dr. Akbar was also recognized with the 2002 AOCOG Young Gynecological Award at the XVIII Asia & Oceania Congress of Obstetrics & Gynecology. After completing her fellowship, she joined the prestigious Aga Khan University Hospital in Karachi, Pakistan as OB/GYN Attending/Consultant.‬‬

After 8 years of OB/GYN practice in Pakistan, Dr. Akbar moved to the United States in 2002 and pursued her medical certifications. June 2009 she completed with distinctions a second OB/GYN residency at John G. Stroger Hospital of Cook County. She was the chief resident during her final year residency program and was awarded with the Best Teaching Resident Award and for being an Outstanding Resident of OBGYN program.

July 2009 she joined Barrington Health Care for Women associated with Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Lake Barrington, IL. In her 15 + years of practice, Dr. Akbar has delivered more than 5,000 babies, she has performed hundreds of hysterectomies and has been performing minimally invasive robotic assisted procedures and hysterectomies. Dr. Akbar is Board Certified and Fellow of American College of Obstetrics & Gynecology (ACOG).

In 2011 & 2012 for her dedicated services to the Patients of Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital she was recognized with the distinction of joining the elite group of Exemplary Physicians two years in a row.

Gynecology: We provide complete gynecologic care. Gynecologic problems such as abnormal Pap tests, menstrual problems, pelvic pain, infections, infertility, premenstrual syndrome (PMS), and gynecologic cancers are evaluated and referred for proper treatment. Other services include annual exams with family planning, contraception, breast exams, Pap tests, mammography, pregnancy testing and counseling, and menopause counseling.

Obstetrics: We provide complete prenatal care, including pregnancy testing, birth planning, and health education, as well as the necessary tests, support, and encouragement. Physicians who specialize in maternal/fetal medicine are available for women who have special medical or genetic concerns or face high-risk pregnancies.
